We are working with a US insurance company, with plans ready for execution to enter the European market. They are a niche insurance company providing mobile phone insurance programs. Our client wants to enter the European market and will settle their headquarters in Amsterdam. At the moment we are hiring a compliance director as the first position in the Netherlands for our client. The International compliance director will pave the way to a smooth entry to the European market.

The position
The Director will be responsible for establishing and leading the day-to-day policies related to the operation of the insurance and service contract programs with the goal of minimizing business and regulatory risks. This position is responsible for enterprise-wide International insurance licensing and registrations, including agent, adjuster, producer, service contract/warranty, and specialty/ restrictive lines licensing and for reviewing all filings and renewals made with applicable regulatory bodies.
The Director of International Compliance will also be responsible for reviewing all denied claims and will be the chief liaison between Company, the insurance company(ies) underwriting the program(s), third-party claim administrators and regulatory agencies. The Director International Compliance will have a direct reporting relationship to the Chief Financial Officer of Company Holdings, LLC and will supervise and manage the daily activities of Manager of International Compliance. The Director of International Compliance will be subject to AFM expertise and integrity testing. Successful completion of such testing is a condition of employment.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Advise Company of compliance requirements specific to each country and region in which Company is engaging or considering entering.
- Provide support for business development and RFP processes.
- Develop, negotiate and implement programs in conjunctions with Company(s) underwriters designed to provide optimal competitive insurance and service contract solution, compliant with AFM and local regulatory and consumer-protections laws
- Develop new program infrastructure, included but not limited to regulatory submissions and applications, underwriting guidelines, policy and rate forms, and claims manuals. Manage Company’s filing process for service contracts, insurance policies and amendments.
- Lead licensing compliance efforts by developing and updating requirements specific to each region/ country of business and working with clients to maintain licensing compliance.
- Track and educate on laws and regulations that impact and/or affect the organization's policies, procedures and/or protocols and design/ implement new business processes or controls to respond to such changes
- Oversee the claims adjudication/escalation process. Work effectively with in-house and outsourced adjusters and escalation agents through coaching, guidance, and ensuring employees have the information required to accomplish business objectives.
- Maintain expert knowledge and stay abreast of existing, new, and emerging trends, products, and regulations within the telecommunications, insurance, and service contract industries.
- Ensure overall compliance with government regulations, underwriters, and company policies. Identify new and ongoing program needs and work with internal and external stakeholders to quickly and effectively address identified needs
- Contribute compliance-related input to the development of system requirements, new implementations, and other projects.
- Review and advise the company on compliance requirements for program brochures and other store representative and customer-facing materials.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, clients, underwriters, and regulators.
- Work with fraud management team to provide support for fraud prevention related initiatives.
Candidate profile
BS/BA, MS/ MBA preferred, finance, insurance, or risk management discipline- Legal professional with insurance expertise is a plus but not required
- Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience in Dutch insurance industry. Experience within the extended limited warranties is a plus. Mobile/Wireless Telecom industry experience is a plus.
- Property & Casualty foundation preferred. Authority on Financial Markets (AFM) licensing required. Prior completion of expertise and integrity testing by the AFM desired.
- Experience in developing new insurance product rate and form filings.
- Experience in the analysis and interpretation of underwriting exposure and claims data.
- Strong leadership, critical- and strategic-thinking, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Previous project management responsibility with ability to drive projects to successful closure.
- Advanced proficiency in PC applications (MS Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint).
- Experience working effectively in a team environment; well-organized, highly motivated, and disciplined.
- Ability to handle conflicting priorities; ability to work with senior management as well as peers and junior colleagues; act with a sense of urgency.
- Quick learner, early adapter of new methods, processes and technologies. Manages own work.
