The organisation

Our Client is an international building materials group, operating in 35 countries and employing 75,000 people. It focuses on three core businesses: primary materials, value-added building products and specialist building materials distribution.

To capture the full saving potential on European NPR (Non-Product-Related) sourcing categories (~€1Bn spend), a cross-European PEP (Procurement-Excellence-Programme) has been instigated. The objective of the initiative is to identify and realise NPR savings and improvements to achieve world class purchasing throughout the NPR spend categories and focuses on the following areas

• Capture sustainable savings by increasing the level of collective purchasing power
• Reduce the number of suppliers by spend category
• Exchange and apply best-practices between the individual operating companies
• Organise and professionalise the NPR procurement function

Job description

• Located at the German headquarters in Düsseldorf and reporting to the CPO Europe it requires the job holder to liaise closely with colleagues across Europe.
• Identify and enable opportunities to achieve cost reductions and service improvements for the NPR spend categories of over € 100 mio pa, utilising a category management approach.
• Define and execute procurement strategies, to lead (multi-functional) category teams from initiation through to contract conclusion and implementation.
• Build strong and effective relationships both with internal customers and external suppliers to create the framework for the implementation of procurement initiatives and change management processes.
• Work alongside Operating Companies and directors responsible for budgets/cost centres to deliver tangible business benefits from the opportunities identified.
• Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and expertise in Best Practice Procurement to become a recognised, reliable and valued source for NPR Procurement.
• Champion and increase awareness of NPR Procurement and facilitate necessary changes throughout the business. Monitor compliance & escalate non-compliance.
• Potentially take the lead for cross-country category management initiatives.

Candidate profile

• Managerial (procurement) experience with multiple stakeholders required
• Experienced in developing sourcing strategies for a variety of non-product related categories (category management).
• Very strong influencing, negotiation & communication skills. Persuasive and resourceful, building effective relationships. Ability to deal with ambiguity.
• Strategic & problem solving approach. Enthusiastic & self-motivated. Strong numerical, project-planning & analytical skills.
• German and English language skills minimum.
• A highly motivated self-starter requiring minimal day-to-day management support and guidance.
• Measurement of results is a key part of this role, therefore the candidate will need to demonstrate a good understanding of measuring and communicating the value delivered to both the operating companies and senior management.
