The organisation

Our client is a professional Food organization, based in Niedersachsen Germany.

For our client, an internationally operating food company specialized in Food and Ingredients based solutions in the meat industry in Lower Saxony, we are currently looking for a "Sales Director Retail Pork", with strong experience in the Meat Industry.

The position

In the role as "Sales Director Retail Pork" you are responsible for all pork sales in Germany, managing 10-15 (Sales Managers) across several German offices. Furthermore you will also be in charge of managing German export worldwide, developing and implementing sourcing strategies in the area assigned to add maximum value to the business.

In this dynamic role your aim is to assure that existing customer/supplier relationships are maintained and developed, whilst identifying new commercial opportunities and driving growth across the business areas.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Defines and executes the short-term tactical vision and roadmap for the company, building a comprehensive knowledge of the German Pork market, competitors and markets – build & execute a tactical plan
  • Identification of opportunities through structured analysis, networking and assistance from business leaders
  • To deliver sales targets to agreed business plan, striving the best possible margins depending upon market conditions
  • To be fully up to date and knowledgeable about prevailing and anticipated market movements, ensuring procurement is executed to the best possible trading terms
  • To motivate and cooperate with colleagues and specially the logistics service team, ensuring performance is maintained at agreed Company standards
  • To maintain effective working relationships across the Group and particularly in terms of ingredients sourcing and logistics
  • To pro-actively ensure knowledge is current and ahead of the game in terms of the meat and meat products market movements
  • Rapidly build and consistently maintain an active pipeline
  • Prospect, develop and close sales while meeting and exceeding goals and expectations
  • Expertly navigate the complex buying processes of large, enterprise organizations
  • Attend networking events to establish relationships and promote the full line of the companies offerings
  • Listen to, identify and understand prospects’ viewpoints and tailor communication to meet their needs and expectations
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required (Do what it takes to drive sales)
  • Responsible for a team of 10-15
  • Ready to travel 50%

Candidate profile

  • Educated at degree level or equivalent (ideally business/commercial bias)
  • Current and in depth experience (5-10 years) of meat and meat products, preferably in pork or beef both at supplier and customer level
  • Proven experience of customer account management and proven negotiation skills
  • Good analytical skills with high level of numeracy
  • Strong ability to develop close and effective working relationships with all key internal and external stakeholders and demonstrate positive influencing skills
  • Self motivated with high levels of energy and drive to achieve targets
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with high level of IT literacy
  • Fluency in German and English is a must, any additional language is a plus
