The position

The European Finance Director will lead financial strategy and oversight for the European operations, ensuring robust financial management and strategic planning. The role is essential in guiding growth and managing risk.

For our client, YER would like to get in touch with an European Finance Director. In this position you will lead the financial operations of Europe, ensuring sound financial management and strategic financial planning. This role will be crucial in guiding the company’s financial strategy, managing risk, and overseeing financial reporting. You will report to the CFO in the UK.

Tasks & responsibilities

Most important tasks and responsibilities:

• Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company’s goal of significant growth across the European Region.
• Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes (weekly, monthly annual cycles as appropriate).
• Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to senior management and the board.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations (The Netherlands and other European regions i.e. Germany).
• Manage cash flow, investment strategies, and financial risk management.
• Ensure operations at all locations are provided with the necessary assets including evaluation of capital investment opportunities.
• Financial leadership during tender processes (including costing).
• Financial analysis of customer performance and profitability.
• Oversee the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
• Prepare and present financial reports to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to drive profitability and operational efficiency.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and other financial partners.
• Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes.

Candidate profile

• University Master’s degree (M.Sc.) extended with a CPA (RA).
• Significant experience in a senior finance role, ideally within FMCG, wholesale or logistics business.
• Strong knowledge of European (preferably NL GAAP and German GAAP) accounting regulations and compliance requirements.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Pro-active leadership.
• Proficient in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Fluent in Dutch and English (German is an advantage).
